The Difference between Present Perfect Simple & Past Simple

A. Past Simple

B. Present Perfect

What is important is when it happened. It happened at a certain time in the past.

The signal words are: last year, yesterday, a week ago, in 2020, just now, when I was young…

  • I read Romeo and Juliet yesterday.
It is important when I read it.

I. The present effect is important, the result of an action in the past is important in the present

  • I have read Romeo and Juliet.
→ I have read it, which means we can talk about it now.
  • I have done my homework.
And now I can go out.

II. Duration is important
