The signal words are: last year, yesterday, a week ago, in 2020, just now, when I was young…
- I read Romeo and Juliet yesterday.
→ It is important when I read it.
I. The present effect is important, the result of an action in the past is important in the present
- I have read Romeo and Juliet.
→ I have read it, which means we can talk about it now. - I have done my homework.
→ And now I can go out.
II. Duration is important
- We haven’t seen each other for ages.

Since she met him she has been happy.

Since they have been together she has been happy.
