Present Simple – Adverbs of Frequency

  1. We often use the present simple with adverbs of frequency (always, usually, often, sometimes, seldom, rarely, hardly ever, never). Adverbs of frequency go before the main verb but after the verb to be and auxiliary verbs.
  • She usually smiles.
  • Do you often go to the theatre?
  • He hardly ever drinks beer.
  • It doesn’t often rain in summer.
  • She is always happy.
  • Is he often happy?
  • He is hardly ever late.
  • They aren’t usually  at home at the weekends.
  1. Expressions of frequency (once a week, twice a week, every day) usually go at the end of a sentence.
  • I have French classes once a week.
  • We go for a holiday twice a year.
  • I exercise every morning.
