Past Simple – When do we use it?

  1. We use past simple to talk about actions and situations in the past which are now finished.
  • We went to France on holiday last summer.
  • I didn’t call you yesterday.
  1. We use past simple to talk about actions which happened one after the other in the past.
  •  I got out of the bed, had a shower, had breakfast and went to work.
  • We did some shopping and then prepared everything for the party.

Time expressions we use with the past simple:

yesterday, last week/month/year, ago, then, when I was young, how long ago, in 2020, the other day

The form for past simple is the same for all persons.
