Lesson 2 of 6
In Progress

How do we form it – Reported orders/requests/advice

We use the verb advise/ask/tell/order/warn + pronoun/noun + infinitive.

Examples:

  • ‘Don’t do that!’ she warned him.
  • She warned him not to do that.
  • ‘Get out of the car!’ said the policeman.
  • The policeman ordered him to get out of the car.
  • ‘Pass me the sugar, please,’ she asked me.
  • She asked me to pass her the sugar.

Notice: We leave out the following:  please, would you mind, exclamation marks, etc.

Remember to change the pronouns and possessive adjectives according to the context.
