Comparative Clauses (B2)

  1. Twice as + adjective + as // three times + adjective + as // half + adjective + as
    • This car is twice as expensive as that one.
    • His income is three times as high as mine.

     

  2. The + comparative + clause, the + comparative clause
    • The earlier we leave, the less traffic there will be.
    • The less you spend, the more you save.

     

  3. The comparative + and + comparative (comparatives can be repeated to suggest a continuing change)
    • I can’t stand the weather. It’s getting worse and worse.
    • Everything is getting more and more expensive.

     

  4. Too + adjective/adverb + infinitive or for (too means more than we need)
    • It’s too early to go to bed.
    • The tea is too hot to drink.

     

  5. Too + adjective // adverb + for a person + infinitive
    • It’s too early to go to bed.
    • The tea is too hot for the baby to drink.

     

  6. Adjective/adverb + enough + infinitive
    • She is old enough to clean her bedroom.
    • We aren’t rich enough to buy a yacht.

     

  7. Adjective/adverb + enough + for + noun/pronoun + infinitive
    • It wasn’t hot enough for Mary to go swimming.
    • The match was easy for us to win.
