Hi Geoff, thank you for reaching out with your suggestion. While the first part of your suggestion is correct (past perfect), the second part “wouldn’t have overslept” implies a past result. The original sentence implies a present state (“tired this morning”). While oversleeping might be a reason for being tired, it’s not the direct “not tired” state the sentence indicates. This is why the correct answer is in the exercise, I have double checked it.
