B. Which verbs are state?

Some verbs describe states and feelings rather than actions, so they are not used in progressive tenses.

Admit, agree, be, believe, belong, care, consist, contain, depend, doubt, envy, exist, fit, forget, hate, have, hear, hope,  imagine, involve, know, like, look like, love, matter, mean, need, own, possess, prefer, promise, realize, recognize, remember, seem, suppose, suspect, understand, want, wish.

To help you remember them, try to group them together:

Feelings: like, love, hate, dislike, don’t mind, fear, envy, care, etc.

Abstract: be, believe, know, remember, understand, imagine, etc.

Belongings: belong, have, own, possess, etc.

Senses: hear, feel, see, smell, seem, taste, etc.

Try to understand the logic, you do not need to memorize them.

The state verbs we cannot control, it is something that is:

a) in our heart and mind

b) then our existence

c) and our perception

d) possession and measurement
